Mrs Phiri Enelesi is a widow and lives in Chanunda village with her 5 children. 2 of her children are twins enrolled in the ECE class at Ntitimila Community School in Chipata. Their home is about 1kilometre away from Nthitimila community school.

She narrates that her family only eats 1 meal a day as she cannot afford to provide the 3 meals required per day for the family. Prior to the closure of schools due to COVID-19 pandemic, her two twins used to benefit from the school feeding program (porridge) but since schools were closed, it has been very difficult for her to provide food for her family. With the humanitarian food packs she received, the family will be able to eat at least eat 2 meals a day.”nipeleka vitokozo kwa ROCS na boma pa ufa ndi vakudya talandila, banja yanga yapeza chakudya sikuyalelo”   she is thankful to ROCS and its partners for the COVID 19 relief she has received. This has given her hope as she will be preparing porridge in the morning and later they would get Nshima with Kapenta or soya nuggets. She hopes to see other community members who haven’t received to also receive, in the future if this exercise was to be extended.

The civic leaders appreciated ROCS and its management for the good work done to the schools and households. Chief Zumwanda and Chief Kazembe were delighted to see developments ROCS is taking to their respective chiefdoms. The civic attributed that the construction of the ECE centres were a milestone that ROCS have taken to Kazembe area. He encouraged his subjects to work with ROCS to improve the status of schools. He also warned parents to stop sending children to herd cattle, but send them to school. Chief Zumwanda through his representative spoke on the importance of early childhood education and also said on the relief distribution. “It was an honour to receive such help from ROCS and it came on the right time when our district Lumezi recently had floods. Most of the households, their crops have been swept away by heavy rains leaving families with nothing to eat but this food will surely make a difference in our lives.”
